Do you have a Chase Sapphire Preferred credit card?  If the answer is yes, you can earn points for referring this credit card to your family or friends (if they apply and are approved using your referral).

Chase periodically offers the opportunity to earn points for referring its credit cards through the Chase refer-a-friend program. The way Chase refer-a-friend works is that will you receive bonus points (usually 5,000 or 10,000 depending on the card) for each person who applies and is approved for a Chase credit card using your referral link.

Currently the Chase Sapphire Preferred card is offering a referral bonus.  The Chase Sapphire Preferred referral bonus is better than what Chase normally offers for other credit cards for a few reasons:

1) The bonus for each referral is 15,000 Ultimate Rewards points instead of the usual 5,000 or 10,000 for other Chase credit cards.
2) The total amount you can earn for all Chase Sapphire Preferred referrals is 75,000 bonus points per year (normally you are capped at 50,000 per year).
3) The Chase Sapphire Preferred is offering a higher than usual sign up bonus. Normally the bonus is 50,000 Ultimate Rewards but the current sign up bonus is 60,000 Ultimate Rewards .

How to Refer the Chase Sapphire Preferred card

If you have a Sapphire Preferred, you will earn 15,000 points for each Chase Sapphire Preferred referral up to a maximum of 75,000 points per calendar year.

To generate your referral visit

Enter your last name, zip code and last 4 digits of your card to see if your card is eligible for a referral bonus. If your Chase card is eligible, you will be given a referral link which you can copy and text to your friends or post on social media.

There are 2 options for sharing your referral link (Email or sharing your link). Email is the slowest option – it will take up to 7 days for your friend to receive the email. To share the link quickly you can either copy your link and text your friend or post your link on social media.

This is a great time to apply for the Chase Sapphire Preferred card as it has a higher than usual sign up bonus of 60,000 Ultimate Rewards points after spending $4,000 on purchases in the first three months from account opening.

(If your friends apply for a lot of credit cards they might not be approved. This card is subject to the Chase 5/24 rule for credit card approvals meaning applicants will not be easily approved (if at all) if they have applied for more than 5 cards from any bank in the last 24 months. See this post for more information about the 5/24 rule.)

If you have a Chase Sapphire Preferred and you know a friend or family member that would be interested in applying for the Chase Sapphire Preferred card, this is a great way to earn a 15K referral bonus per person. If you have other Chase cards, many of them also currently eligible for a refer a friend bonus -see the current list here.
