Chase has released the 5% bonus categories for the fourth quarter of 2020 (October 1, 2020 – December 31, 2020) for the original Chase Freedom card and new Chase Freedom Flex card and registration is now open.  Although the Chase Freedom and the Chase Freedom Flex are technically cash back cards, if you have a Chase Sapphire PreferredChase Sapphire Reserve, Ink Business Preferred or Ink Plus card you can transfer points from your Freedom account into one of those accounts and then can transfer those points to various Chase travel partners.

The Chase Freedom 5% categories for 2020 Q4 quarter (October 1, 2020 – December 31, 2020) are Walmart and PayPal.

Chase provides some clarification on what is included or excluded in each category.
•    Purchases in the Walmart category include purchases at Walmart Discount Stores, Walmart SuperCenters, Walmart Neighborhood Markets, www.walmart.com, Walmart branded gas stations operated by Walmart, any other Walmart branded retail stores operated by Walmart, and purchases made with Walmart Pay. Please note that merchants operating within or on Walmart premises such as merchants that sell fast food, beauty services, and gas stations that are not Walmart branded are not included in this category. Walmart affiliate businesses such as Sam’s Club are also not included in this category.
•  Purchases in the PayPal category Include purchases made using your Chase Freedom card with PayPal. Purchases made using PayPal at merchants in the current 5% quarterly categories will be awarded a total of 5% Cash Back rewards on up to $1,500 in combined purchases. Payments made through the Xoom transfer service are not eligible for 5%. Must have/open a PayPal account. Please note, Friends and Family or Person-to-Person (P2P) transactions made with your Chase Freedom card on PayPal may be prohibited.
Qualifying purchases made using PayPal at Walmart will only earn a total of 5%

The 5% only applies to the first $1,500 spent on combined purchases each quarter. This means if you spend $1,500 on a combination of Walmart and PayPal this quarter you will receive a total of 7,500 points (1,500 plus a bonus of 6,000 points).

Don’t Forget to Activate

If you have not yet activated the 5% for this quarter, you can register now or any time during the registration period and earn the full 5% for the entire quarter retroactively. Registration for the 4th quarter of 2020 has already started and ends on December 14, 2020.
