Office Depot and OfficeMax is giving a discount on the purchase of Visa gift cards this week. Here are the details:
• $15 off when you buy $300 or more of Visa Gift Cards
• Valid 8/21/16-8/27/16
• In store only
• Discount applied at register
• Limit two offers per customer
Unlike Staples gift card deals, there is no mail in rebate and the $15 is automatically deducted from the register. While these gift cards have a fee, the $15 discount will make the gift card purchase fee free and earn some extra money. There is a limit of 2 offers per customer but if you want to take advantage of this discount multiple times, try going to a different cashier, returning to the store multiple times or a different store.
To minimize fees it would be best to buy the highest denomination gift cards you can find. I just came back from Office Depot and I bought the $20-200 Visa gift cards issued by Metabank for a fee of $6.95. I paid $398.90 for two $200 Visa gift cards worth $400.
How much points you earn depends on the credit card you use. The best cards to use those that earn 5% in office supply stores (such as the Chase Ink) but you come ahead even if you use another credit card.
This is a great opportunity to purchase tons of gift cards without paying a fee. These gift cards can be used as a debit card using a pin number.
I never use debit cards. Can they be used at all supermarkets, gas station pumps and home depot self-checkout registers? At restaurants?
You don’t need to use them as a debit card for making regular purchases, you could use them like you would a credit card at all these places and don’t need to enter a pin. People use these like a debit card with a PIN number in order to liquidate them with either Bluebird or Serve or purchasing money orders because you can only do that with debit cards.
I thought office max/depot didn’t accept credit cards for prepaid debit cards. Have they changed their policy? I’m really bummed I missed out on this.
Tried to post a question here yesterday, doesn’t look like it got posted.

Hi Kev,
There might be some stores that have a policy of not accepting credit cards but the store I went to will allow it if the register allows it which it did. Thanks for subscribing and reading!
