Well that did not last long! A few days ago, I wrote about about RadPad offering a promotion allowing Android users to pay rent with a credit card for free until the end of the year. Unfortunately RadPad pulled the promotion effective August 24, 2016.

Here is an excerpt from the announcement on RadPad’s blog:

Although we are overwhelmed that the promotion has gained so much traction, we drastically underestimated just how many people would sign up to pay their rent with Android Pay; and within only a few weeks we’ve surpassed the budget for the entire year that was allocated to subsidize the credit card fee.

That is why we regret to inform everyone that beginning today, August 24th, 2016 we will no longer be able to offer the Android Pay promotion.

Anyone who signed up and qualified for the promotion prior to August 24th, 2016 will still enjoy free credit card fees as long as their rent is charged on or before August 31, 2016. However, we will not be able to offer the promotion through the end of the year. After August 31, 2016, the regular 2.99% fee will apply if you choose to continue using your credit card through Android Pay.

The good news is that anyone that signed up before August 24, 2016 will still be able to charge one month’s rent on their credit card for free as long as their rent is charged on or before August 31, 2016.  After that the regular RadPad fees will apply (2.99% fee for credit cards and a flat fee of $4.95 for using a debit card).

While no longer a free way to earn miles, RadPad could still be useful for those that need an easy way to meet minimum spending requirements and earn a big sign up bonus.  A better option for paying rent is Plastiq (my referral link).  The usual fee for using a credit card with Plastiq is 2.50%.  Plastiq even offers the ability to earn free credit card payments by making referrals.
