Late last year, I flew in Hello Kitty Eva Air economy class for the first time. I was looking forward to this flight and it did not disappoint. I can definitely say this was my best economy flight ever.
For those of you not familiar with Hello Kitty flights, Eva Air usually flies Hello Kitty Special Livery Jets on some of its routes on certain dates and times. In addition to flying on a Hello Kitty airplane, Hello Kitty fights feature Hello Kitty themed inflight service items.
Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, Eva Air temporarily suspended their Hello Kitty Jet service until further notice. The special livery aircraft are subject to route adjustment and don’t provide the Sanrio-themed inflight service items. Hopefully, Hello Kitty service will resume soon but in the meantime this review will give you an idea what to expect should Eva Air restart its Hello Kitty service.
Hello Kitty EVA Air Economy Class Review
EVA Air BR 226
Boeing 777-300ER
Economy Class
Singapore Changi (SIN) to Taipei Taoyuan (TPE)
Flight Time: 4 hrs 35 min
The Hello Kitty Eva Air experience starts from boarding. Our boarding pass was printed on Hello Kitty paper and we were given Hello Kitty tags for our in cabin baggage.
The EVA Airways 777-300ER economy class cabin features a 3x3x3 configuration.
Each seat has a Hello Kitty themed head rest cover.
In addition to a pillow (with a Hello Kitty themed cover), regular ear buds were left on every economy seat.
Eva Air has individual screens in the back of every economy seat so everyone has their own in flight entertainment center (IFE). There is also a USB port for charging portable electronic devices.
A Hello Kitty video was playing on the screens during boarding.
The IFE had a decent selection of on demand movies, TV shows and games.
In addition to the head rest covers and pillow cases, there were more Hello Kitty touches. Even the safety instructions and disposal bag were Hello Kitty themed.
The flight attendants also wore special Hello Kitty aprons on top of their regular uniforms. Service was good enough – I had no complaints.
We were served drinks (in Hello Kitty cups), a snack pack and given a Hello Kitty menu. Even the napkins were Hello Kitty themed. (I thought the snack pack was too cute to eat so I saved it as a treat for my 3 year old nephew.)
Below are photos of the Hello Kitty menu provided to us:
The Hello Kitty theme continued with the meal.
Our meal was served on a Hello Kitty tray cover and we were provided with cute Hello Kitty purple utensils (fork, spoon and knife) and wet paper towel. I ate using just my fork so I could keep the utensils as clean as possible so I could bring them home with me.
For our main course we had a choice of chicken or fish. I selected the chicken which I thought tasted OK but not great.
My companion selected the fish so here is a photo of the other option.
Before my flight I had read somewhere that you could ask the flight attendants for free Hello Kitty playing cards and EVA Air pens which I did. She gave me a set and they are cute souvenirs from my first Hello Kitty flight.
Overall, I really enjoyed my first Hello Kitty flight. It was fun seeing all the Hello Kitty touches.
Even if this had not been a Hello Kitty flight, I would still recommend EVA Air economy class. I thought the seat pitch felt pretty generous and liked that everyone has an individual TV screen. Normally when I fly economy within the US on a 4.5 hour flight, it feels really long, but this flight flew by really fast.
My wife and I took the Hello Kitty flight from ORD in 2018. I’m more or less indifferent but she was thrilled. We flew business class and to this day we both consider it the best business class we’ve ever flow, which says a lot. Thanks for the review.
Glad you both enjoyed it. EVA Air has a great business class even on non Hello Kitty flights but the Hello Kitty touches makes it more fun. We actually flew Hello Kitty on business class back to ORD. Here is our review: https://thetravelsisters.com/eva-air-business-class-review/
