My significant other wanted to spend his significant birthday at “Disneyland for golfers” Pebble Beach. With me. As he had pulled the birthday card, I gamely agreed to a three-day trip even though we don’t normally stay at $$$ (or even $$) resorts. And I don’t really play golf.
Pebble Beach resorts include Lodge at Pebble Beach, Inn at Spanish Bay and Casa Palmero. We chose the Lodge. It is the only location that welcomes pets and we wanted to have the option for our dog, Buddy, to accompany us.

The main benefit of staying at one of the resort properties versus nearby Carmel or Monterey are the special booking privileges for golf reservations. Guests are allowed and encouraged to book their tee times in advance along with their room stay.
We arrived early for check-in so a room was not available immediately. They asked for our number and told us they would call as soon as one became available. We took the opportunity to grab some lunch at one of their restaurants and familiarize ourselves with the property. When we received a call not too long after and still way before official check-in time, we headed back to the lobby to grab our room card. Even though we booked a standard room and did not mention it was a special occasion, the front desk was kind enough to upgrade us to the Ocean Studio room.
View from our room- famous 18th fairway
The actual room was quite spacious with a large sitting area.
Conveniently, web tv and a wireless keyboard is available in the room.
Comfy king-size bed
There was an honor bar with some complimentary items but we never figured out which items were complimentary.
The bathroom was large with two sinks and separate shower and tub.
Some guests might find it odd there is no air-conditioning. A thermostat in the room provides heat only.
Even though outside temperatures were in the 70s during the day, the room never felt stuffy. As long as you opened the balcony door for a few minutes (who wouldn’t with that view) the ocean breeze cooled things quickly.
We ended up not traveling with our dog since we were concerned the area might not be pet-friendly enough for him. He had a great time at home with Patti but it definitely would’ve been fun for him. There were quite a few dogs on the property and the surrounding areas were pet-friendly as well. We got a kick out of the special Puppy Menu available in the room.
Another little perk of staying at Pebble Beach resorts is their partnership with Lexus. Guests have access to a free two-hour drive using one of the hotel’s Lexus vehicles between 9am and 5pm. We took advantage of the nice weather and borrowed a convertible to explore the surrounding area.
Obviously most people visit Pebble Beach for the golf but I think their greatest asset is their staff. They were all genuinely friendly and helpful. One night, the room above us had their music extremely loud and when we called the front desk to politely ask them to turn it down, they handled it immediately and even called back to make sure that everything was now quiet.
Overall, we really enjoyed our splurge at the Lodge. It’s not something we would do on a regular basis but it was fun for a special occasion. The room and view were beautiful, my husband enjoyed golf and we absolutely loved the surrounding area.
Looks like you visited during our good weather clear skies spell. By most accounting, The Lodge is a $$$$ place to stay.
We lucked out with the weather- every local we talked to kept telling us it isn’t always like that. Btw, we especially enjoyed reading your helpful posts on the area during our planning!
