Our stay at the Delano Las Vegas came courtesy of a complimentary upgrade during check-in. Although our reservation was for the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, we were pleased with the unexpected upgrade as we did not even have elite status. We were also relieved that we did not need to try the well-known $20 trick- neither of us were confident in our ability to execute it seamlessly. Ultimately, the upgrade was probably because we arrived late in the day and all the rooms at Mandalay were occupied.
Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would consider the Delano for future visits to Las Vegas.
Some positives for us included:
• Two bathrooms per suite
• Entire hotel is non-smoking
• Dog friendly suites available
• Great view of Las Vegas from the miX Lounge
Living room
All rooms at the Delano are suites with a separate sitting room area and extra half bath near the entryway. This is always useful if you plan to have company over.
The minibars are locked and require a code to open. We didn’t bother calling for a code since there was a vending machine a few doors down with cold water and soft drinks. If you would like to keep outside purchases cool, a small fridge is available for $35 per day.
Bedroom
Although the beds were comfortable, the pillows were definitely on the firm side. We read many complaints about this on tripadvisor.
Closet space was somewhat limited and number of hangers was stingy.
The blackout curtains did their job- no light entered the room when they were closed.
Bathroom
The main bathroom has a double vanity, separate shower and tub, tv and separate room with toilet.
In addition to the usual amenities (shampoo, lotion, etc.) there were two pairs of slippers and two very cozy robes.
Service
The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. We ordered room service for breakfast and our order arrived within 30 minutes each time. We assume the staff was directed to educate about the M life program as each time they delivered our room service, they asked if we had heard of M life.
miX Lounge
A great place for a drink if you are looking to enjoy the Las Vegas skyline is the miX Lounge. Located on the 64th floor of the Delano, it has both indoor and outdoor space and a great view of Las Vegas.
For those not afraid of heights, there are also glass elevators to enjoy the Vegas skyline on your ride up or down.
General
The Delano Las Vegas (previously Thehotel) is an all-suite hotel in the Mandalay Bay complex. The name is often mispronounced so we checked with an employee and were assured it is “DELL-uh-no” as in its namesake, Franklin Delano Roosevelt.
Although Matilda’s dog Buddy did not accompany us on this trip, we love that dog friendly suites are available.
Free and fast internet access is available by entering your last name and room number.
The Delano does not have its own casino but it is attached to the Mandalay Bay so you do not need to go outside to gamble. It does offer its own full-service wellness spa, salon and fitness center but we did not have the opportunity to check it out.
Guests have access to the pools at the Mandalay, including the popular wave pool and sand beach. There are plans to build a pool just for guests of the Delano.
Overall, we really enjoyed the Delano Las Vegas and would recommend it. Despite some minor issues, we would not hesitate to stay again.
Internet is not free. You’re paying for it with the mandatory $32 resort fee.
