We booked this flight using 62,500 American AAdvantage miles plus $2.50 in fees per person. Probably because it was winter, there was decent availability for award flights from Chicago to Tokyo Narita on several dates.
Seats
The first class cabin is located on the main deck and consists of 16 seats. The cabin has a total of four rows in a 1-2-1 configuration. We sat in the two seats in the middle so that we would be able to put down the divider and talk to each other.
The overhead bins had enough room to put a large carry on bag above our seats.
The seats are swivel sets with three different positions and they can be made fully flat.
Amenities and Service
Our seats had blankets, an amenity kit, Bose noise cancelling headphones and slippers available for use.
The amenity kit was pretty nice and included tissues, toothbrush and toothpaste, earplugs, eye mask, socks, moisturizer, lip balm, lens cleaning cloth and a pen.
The flight attendant came around and asked if we wanted pyjamas. We were able to keep our pyjamas and amenity kits but unfortunately not the headphones.
The flight attendants did not make up our beds but we were fine making our own.
Food and Drink
The food was pretty good but we are not too picky anyway. Here are some pictures of the menu and what we ordered.
Not a bad way to fly from Chicago to Tokyo. While American does not have the nicest first class, we had a flat bed and was comfortable enough for us.

Adding the aircraft type would improve this post. Nice though. Thanks.
Yes it is a 777-200. Thanks for the feedback-agree it would be helpful to add aircraft type.
Aircraft type? I assume this is the 777-200 route?
Looks awesome, would love to go First class 🙂
Looks like a lovely experience. Nothing is better than being able to stretch out some on a long exhausting flight.
I wish American brands would step up their business and first class sections though. The Middle Eastern and SE Asian airlines are running rings around them in these areas.
