We had a quick three day getaway to Los Cabos, Mexico. We really were impressed with Sheraton Hacienda del Mar Golf & Spa Resort and would definitely return.  We visited the day after Thanksgiving and the resort was not occupied to capacity.  The crowd was pretty varied. There were definitely a lot of families but they were plenty of couples and groups of friends.   There was also a wedding that took place that weekend so this is an option for a destination wedding.  Below is our detailed review of the Sheraton Hacienda del Mar Golf & Spa Resort:

Location

Los Cabos  has 3 distinct areas: Cabo San Lucas, the Corridor and San Jose del Cabo.  Cabo San Lucas is to the west and San Jose del Cabo is to the east with the Corridor being the around 20 miles between the two.  The Sheraton Hacienda del Mar Golf & Spa Resort is located at the Corridor.   You cannot walk to anything but taxis are readily available and the hotel offers a shuttle.

Getting Around

A lot of visitors rent a car in the Cabos area but we just used taxis.  The resort offers shuttle service to Puerto Paraiso in Cabo San  Lucas every hour and a half.  The cost of the shuttle is $10 US per person round trip.

There is a printed price list on the wall near the exit of the cost of the taxis so know what the cost of taxis are.  The cost of a taxi  is $20 dollars one way into Cabo San  Lucas.  If you are 4 people, the cost to the town is the same whether you use a taxi or shuttle.

If you exit the hotel the staff can call  you a taxi.  When we left the resort for dinner the staff asked for our room number and did the same thing upon arrival. I presume it is a safety measure to keep track of guests.

Check in

Check in was prompt.  After check in were directed to stop by the activities desk.  At the  activities desk we were offered a map of the resort and  a printed list of activities with prices which the desk could book for us.  This was definitely convenient but I wish the list offered a description of each tour.

We were also offered a resort credit if were were willing to attend the timeshare presentation. We were intially offered $150 per couple but then they went up to $200 per couple since we were not that interested.  They said that the presentation included a free breakfast plus a 75 minute presentation after breakfast. We actually passed since our travel companions were golfing and we like to hit the pool early to avoid the strong mid day rays.

View

We booked an Deluxe Ocean View which comes with either 2 queen beds or 1 king bed.

We were placed in rooms 3226 and 3225 in Villa 23.

Our second story rooms had a east facing balcony which had a view of the ocean  (but not the beach), some of the golf course  and was right above the Delphines pool.  I think this would be a great room for parents of older kids who want to watch their kids at the pool from the balcony but not hang out by the pool themselves.  This was the view we had from our balcony:

Room

Upon entering the room there was a hallway with a closet on the right and the restroom on the left. The bedroom was straight ahead.

In the room was a King bed, ceiling fan, lounge chair, desk with office chair, coffee machine, TV and mini bar.

There was a price list for the mini bar but it was empty which I actually prefer. The mini bar cooled our drinks somewhat but was not super cold.

In the bathroom were 2 complementary bottles of water a day (which were replenished daily).

Bathroom had double vanity sinks, a separate stand up walk in shower, a separate bathtub, hairdryer, magnifying  mirror. I like that there was also a door separating the toilet from the rest of the bathroom.

Housekeeping was super prompt –they cleaned our room within an hour of us leaving the room. Not sure if housekeeping is normally that fast or if it was because the resort was not fully occupied.   They also did a good job as the room was super clean.  They were also liberal with the toilet paper and the toiletries. There were always 2 rolls of toilet paper  hanging in the bathroom as well as one extra roll on top of the toilet.  Also, there were 2 bottles of each of shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and body lotion which were replenished every day.

Internet access

If I had to find something negative about the Sheraton, it would be that in room wifi is not free.  If you want in room wifi you are charged $15 dollars a day.  We ended up paying for the in room wifi and it was super fast.

However, internet access is offered for free in the lobby for 30 minutes a day.  The lobby also had several computers you can use for 30 minutes and offered free printing.  Not sure if there is a limit on printing but we were able to print our boarding passes.

Dining

The resort offered various restaurants, bars as well as 24 hour room service.  We ordered room service for breakfast and it was good and came at the  time we requested.

The restaurants at the hotel include:

De Cortez Grill and Restaurant – upscale steak house

Pitahayas Restaurant- fine dining Pacific Rim cuisine

Girasoles de la Hacienda – Mexican fare

Tomatoes Restaurant- Mediterranean-inspired cuisine with a view of the ocean, beach and pools

Las Sirenas – beach bar next to the main pool offering meals for lunch

We ate at Las Sirenas, Tomatoes Restaurant  and Girasoles de la Hacienda and the food was good at all three.  We did not try Pitahayas Restaurant or De Cortez Grill and Restaurant.  (These are the fancier  restaurants that require a reservation and are open only for dinner.)

There was a grocery store at the resort that sold a big variety of drinks, snacks, hats, post cards, sunscreen and anything you might need.

Gym

We did not use gym but checked it out and had a lot of machines.

Pools

The resort had 5 pools including a children’s pool, a swim up bar and an infinity pool. Most people were congregated around the infinity pool.

Golf

We are not golfers but our travel companions played golf.  The Sheraton has access to two of the best golf courses in Cabo which are in neighboring Cabo del Sol – the Ocean Course (a Jack Nicklaus Signature course) and the Desert Course (Tom Weiskopf’s first course design in Mexico).  Transportation to golf is provided from the lobby.  The fees are pretty pricey though especially for the Ocean course.

Overall

Overall we were very happy with this resort.  We enjoyed the various pools and restaurants.  Also the service was excellent.  We would definitely visit again if we wanted a relaxing weekend getaway.
