I recently stayed a couple of days at the Residence Inn Sacramento Downtown at Capitol Park.  Deciding where to stay in Sacramento was pretty easy –  the Residence Inn is centrally located, has a full size fridge and gets great reviews on tripadvisor.

Location

The Residence Inn Sacramento Downtown at Capitol Park is located in downtown Sacramento right across the street from Capitol Park and only one block from the State Capitol and the Convention Center. There are several restaurants within walking distance or short driving distance.

Check-In and Parking

The parking situation here is a little unusual.  Hotel guests park in a garage across the alley for a fee of $20 a day. However, you can’t park in the garage until after you check in and get your room key so you have to leave your car in the driveway while checking in.

Room

I stayed in a one bedroom suite (all rooms are suites) with a king sofa bed.

The suite had a fully equipped kitchen, with dishwasher, microwave, stove, coffee maker, and full size refrigerator.

The kitchen is fully stocked with plates, bowls, glasses, mugs, toaster, pots and pans, silverware, paper towels, salt and pepper and bottle opener. There is even microwaveable popcorn on the kitchen table.

The living/sitting area has a work desk, sofa, chair and a TV.

The bedroom is separated from the living/dining room by a wall but no door. There is another TV on a stand in the bedroom across from the bed.

The view from the bedroom was not the best. I had asked for a suite with view of the pool on a high floor after reading reviews about street noise from bars being a problem for rooms facing the street.

Our room faced the east side and was quiet at night.  Unfortunately, the shades let in light in the morning so it was hard to sleep in.

The bedroom leads to the small bathroom with a shower/tub combination. The sink is outside of the bathroom (which I prefer) across the closet.  On the sink were Paul Mitchell amenities (shampoo, conditioner, facial bar and body bar) but no body lotion.

Hotel Amenities

The Residence Inn offers a complimentary grocery shopping service which I think would be popular as I did not see any grocery stores or convenience stores walking distance from the hotel.   In-room dining is available from The Hotel Bar from 2:00 PM-10:00 PM.

The Residence Inn also sells drinks, snacks, food and other odds and ends in the lobby next to the reception desk.  There is also an ATM in the lobby.

Free daily breakfast buffet is included in the room rate.  Breakfast is served in the dining area 6:30 to 9:00 am on weekdays and 7:00-9:30 am on weekends. The dining room gets pretty crowded during breakfast but it was empty at night when I took the photo below.

The breakfast buffet was pretty standard and included scrambled eggs, pork sausage, biscuits & sausage gravy, oatmeal, yogurt, cereal, pastries, croissants and waffles.

In addition to free wi-fi throughout the hotel, there are a few desktop computers in the corner of the dining room.

The outdoor pool and whirlpool, 24 hour gym and laundry room are located on the second floor.

According to the hotel, the pool is heated but I did not have time to go for a swim. The pool is somewhat small and not very deep and more suited for families rather than swimming laps.

Overall

Overall, I found the Residence Inn Sacramento Downtown at Capitol Park to be a good place to stay when visiting Sacramento.  The hotel is centrally located in downtown Sacramento with many amenities (free wi-fi, free hot breakfast, free grocery shopping service and fully equipped kitchen).  My only negative was that the bedroom curtains allowed too much sunlight in the room.

Although I don’t have children, I think this would be a good hotel for families due to the fully equipped kitchen, laundry room, outdoor pool, free breakfast buffet, pet friendly and smoke-free policy and proximity to the park.  Click here to see the latest prices.
