One thing that I was worried about when the SPG-Marriott merger was first announced was that Marriott would get rid of the ability to transfer points to many different airlines.  Fortunately, Marriott kept this feature and even added a few new airlines in addition to the prior SPG transfer airline partners.  Below is a list of all the current Marriott airline transfer partners as well as a guide on how to transfer Marriott points to airline miles.

List of Marriott Airline Transfer Partners

Currently, Marriott has 44 airline transfer partners. Most of these transfer at a 3:1 ratio (meaning 3,000 Marriott points transfer to 1,000 miles).

There are 3 exceptions to the 3:1 ratio. Air New Zealand Airpoints has a horrible transfer ratio of 200:1.   JetBlue TrueBlue has a 6:1 ratio so you will get half the miles as other airlines. United has the best transfer ratio  (3:1.1) with a 10% mileage bonus.

You can transfer 3,000–240,000 points per day. For every 60,000 Marriott points transferred, Marriott will automatically add another 5,000 points so it is best to transfer points in increments of 60,000.

How to Transfer Marriott Points to Airlines

Converting Marriott points to airline miles is easy.  You can either go directly to this page or click on “Redeem Points” then “Travel” then “Transfer Points to Miles.”

Click on “Transfer Points” and a box will pop up.

How to transfer Marriott Bonvoy points to airlines

You will need to enter your Frequent Flyer Number and choose the number of points to convert.

When you enter the number of points you want to transfer it will show how many miles you will receive.  However, it does not show the extra 5,000 miles you receive if you transfer 60,000 points.

Transfers are final, you cannot transfer the miles back to Marriott points.

Unfortunately, unlike some other flexible points currencies, transfers from Marriott points to miles are not instantaneous so there is a risk the award you would like to book will be gone by the time the transfer goes through.  A good place to get an idea of current transfer times is this thread on flyertalk.
