Heber Valley, Utah is a perfect destination for year round activities. Here are some reasons to visit Heber Valley:

Convenient Location

Heber Valley is located in Utah less than 50 minutes from Salt Lake City and only 15 minutes from Park City. Since Salt Lake City International Airport is less than an hour away, that means less transportation time and more time to enjoy vacation. Ski lovers would appreciate that Heber Valley is located between the Deer Valley and Sundance ski resorts.

Beautiful Scenery

The area is full of beautiful scenery including state parks, mountains, golf courses and a Swiss-themed town. Fun fact: Heber Valley is known as Utah’s Switzerland thanks to the beauty of the area.

Enjoy state parks? Heber Valley has three: Deer Creek State Park, Jordanelle State Park and Wasatch Mountain State Park.

Water inclined? Numerous lakes, reservoirs and rivers are found throughout the area.

The most popular attraction and a great way to see the spectacular scenery is the historic Heber Valley Railroad. The Heber Valley Historic Railroad offers passenger excursion trains covering 16 miles of scenic track between Heber Valley and Provo Canyon. Notable landmarks viewed from the train include the well known Mount Timpanogos (aka Timp), Deer Creek Reservoir and the Provo River. An added bonus is there is also the possibility to spot wildlife from the train.

Year Round Outdoor Adventures

There are many things to do in Heber Valley year round but the best is to just enjoy the great outdoors and the many available activities and adventures. With over 200 miles of trails and many rivers and lakes, visitors can enjoy the outdoors no matter the season. Winter activities including skiing, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, snow tubing, ice skating and ice fishing are all a possibility. Outdoor activities the rest of the year include hiking, biking, ATV riding, water skiing, boating, horseback riding, zip lining, camping and  blue-ribbon fishing.  Provo River is estimated to have 45,000 fish per river mile making it a great spot for fishing.

The most unique activity available in Heber Valley is to swim, snorkel, or scuba dive in The Crater at the Homestead Resort. What is so unique about it? Well, the Crater is a large “hot-pot” or geo-thermal caldera with naturally heated year round warm water. The Homestead Crater is the only warm water scuba diving destination in the continental United States and offers year-round scuba diving and scuba certification.

Although I am not a golfer, I should mention that Heber Valley is great for golfing. Five public courses are available, each with a different challenge and beautiful scenery.

So, for anyone keen on exploring more of the Western U.S. or just interested in outdoor adventures, check out Heber Valley. With a long list of year round activities, Heber Valley is an ideal destination no matter what you’re looking for.
